snake Oil Vs. Oil Additive Engine Automotive Friction Problem Part I

Engine Automotive Oil Additives or Snake Oil? Oil additives have failed to deliver for years.

In August 1992, a brilliantly written article exposed the repeated failures in the claims of the oil additive (engine automotive and trucking) industry. The article was entitled Snake Oil – Is That Additive Really A Negative? It was written by Fred Rau and was originally printed in Road Rider magazine, now Motorcycle Consumer News. That expose provided the basis for what we in the industry knew: oil additives are a means of lifting money from the wallets of uninformed consumers.

Many in the engine automotive industry were already skeptics. Weve heard all the promises of friction reduction, longer lasting engines, and fuel savings. Repeatedly, such wanna be solutions failed to live up to the hype. With over thirty years in the field, I was a full blown skeptic with dozens of oil additives experience under my belt.

However, an experienced entrepreneur in the field of toll blending for heavy duty industrial solutions drew on his expertise to create an environmentally safe, friction reducing, motor oil additive, solving the one problem oil additives failed to overcome.

Now, if the problem is truly solved, the benefits are obvious:
-less friction means engine automotive protection
-less heat means engine automotive friction is reduced
-longer engine life means a surge in engine automotive performance
-less friction/heat produces a drop in engine automotive related expense
-less friction, heat also leads directly to increased engine automotive fuel economy
Motor oil, as a lubricant, works but is not always sufficient. When it gets hot, motor oil breaks down, vaporizes and burns. The oil industry has been quite innovative, using different additives to combat this process. Motor oil additives consisting of zinc compounds, molybdenum (moly), chlorinated paraffins, and others. The problem with all these additives (apart from plugging oil passages and toxicity) is they are only suspended in the oil.
But, you say, thats the way to get the additives to the hot spots needing friction protection. You must suspend the oil additive in the oil so it is carried to the engine parts needing protection. Thats standard theory.
Yes.
And thats been the guiding assumption for the oil additive industry all along. Suspend the oil additive in motor oil and let it be carried to the friction hot spots.
2. The necessary assumption also provides the problem with engine automotive theory.
Repeat: Suspend the oil additive in motor oil and let be carried to the friction hot spots.
So, whats the problem?
The problem is, the oil additives do not permanently adhere to internal engine stress points. Its presumed in all oil additive engineering approaches that the motor oil is going to carry its oil additive to the high stress points of the engine. This is where the extra lubricating properties are needed.
In that necessary assumption also lies the problem.
As an engine works under heavy load conditions, pressure and friction build up at some of those metal points. The result? The oil is suddenly “missing in action”. It burns up from excessive heat or is squeezed out (exceeds its load bearing capacity) due to excessive pressure.

Either way you end up with metal on metal. The additives themselves cant work because there isnt enough oil present to suspend them. Its been squeezed out or burned up. Put bluntly, an additive can only be where the motor oil is present.
Remember, if oil additive engineering is relying on an additives suspension in motor oil to do its job, then engineering is also stuck with the limitations of the oils properties to withstand heat and pressure.
Note. The additive must be able to withstand heat and pressure to a greater degree than oil or Why bother adding it?.
3. Solution: What if an oil additive actually starts to perform at the temperatures and stress where oil normally fails?
The solution was an additive already meeting industrial needs concerning friction and heat build up.
Carried by the motor oil, it comes to friction points
– engine rings against the cylinder wall
-bearings
-camshafts
-lifters
-valve guides
-turbo charger
-oil pump
Here it does something that no other additive has ever been able to accomplish. This oil additive disassociates (molecularly) from the oil and literally adheres to the metal at the point of friction, leaving a soft metal carboxylate film that can out perform motor oil as a lubricant in a high friction/heat application (as can be seen in the pictures/test results referenced at the site below).
So this lubricant, unlike oil, whether it be synthetic or petroleum, actually starts to perform at the temperatures and stress where oil normally fails. Remember what happens inside the engine, when fuel ignites at the top of the compression stroke and the piston is moving down the cylinder. There, most of the oil on the cylinder wall gets burned up.

But this additive doesnt burn up like the motor oil carrying it. It molecularly embeds itself into the pores of the cylinder wall. So, when the piston is traveling back up the cylinder, the additive acts as a lubricating agent and is always there.

So, in summation: since youre getting rid of the friction, then youre getting rid of the heat generated from it. That means your oil lasts longer. It doesnt get contaminated as quickly because those high friction points are being adequately lubricated. Adequately lubricated, they will cease to be high friction points, running cooler, the oil will pass through those points without burning which creates harmful acids and sludge.

Most importantly your engine can last longer, run more efficiently, and the fuel that was being used to overcome the friction can now be used to move you down the road to where you need to go.

Increasing Automotive Performance

The automotive performance of a car is always related to the amount of fuel consumed by it. However, a cars performance can be increased in certain ways without negatively affecting the gas mileage of a car. Given below are few tips:

Performance chips: Computer chips that operate most new cars these days keep track of how much horsepower and torque can be displaced. Using performance chips or recalibrating the current chip used in a car can help in increasing the torque and horsepower to a great extent.

Cold air Intake: Power of a car engine can be increased if the temperature of the air that enters the car can be reduced. An under the hood modification in the form of cold air intake can help in this. Such an enhancement also beautifies the engine bay by making it colorful and attractive. Such a unit will also make an appealing sound.

Reusable air filters: Throughout the life of most of the cars, about 6 to 12 auto air filters are used without facing any problem, but when not in use most of them end up at the landfills for waste materials. Even though reusable air filters cost thrice as much as normal air filters, they are washable and last much longer than the regular ones. In fact, when you buy a reusable air filter for your car, it is actually the last one you will be ever buying for it. These air filters help you to increase acceleration and horsepower, besides having a very positive impact on the environment.

Performance exhaust systems: Another way to unleash horsepower, trapped up torque, and improve the overall automotive performance is by using “catalyst-back exhaust systems” (cat-back) for cars. Such a system installed in a car reduces exhaust back pressure by using low restriction performance mufflers and large width exhaust pipes while keeping all the important emission parts in their proper place. In addition to better performance, the exhaust system emits awesome sound.

To improve the automotive performance of your car, you may have to bear additional costs. While shopping online for the auto aftermarket products always opt for a trusted wholesaler. That way you will be able to acquire good quality automotive parts at very low prices. The auto aftermarket products/ services for increasing automotive performance of cars include accessories, replacement parts, appearance products, lubricants, various tools and equipments required for repair and service repairs. If you do the shopping yourself, you will be able to save a lot.

In 2007, the auto aftermarket had done better than in 2006, with a total sale of $285.5, which is a 4% increase from the previous year. In the light truck and car section alone the auto aftermarket experienced $211.4 billion sales while in case of heavy duty vehicles the aftermarket sales figure stood at $74.1 billion.

The Basic Function And Classification Of The Auto Diagnostic Tools

The inspection to the automotive fault is largely depend on the auto diagnostic tools such as the x431 diagun and GM MDI which have function of read the car trouble codes, clear trouble code and data stream, component testing, maintenance light reset, read the computer version, basic settings and matching adjustment. Some automotive fault diagnostic computer such as the gm tech2 and autocom cdp could also provide value-added services such as the long-distance diagnosis for car fault, vehicle maintenance data, fault code table, management of customer files, business functions and so on. From these descriptions, we could find that the manufacture for the auto diagnostic tools such as the GO2OBD which is a brand for reliable auto maintenance devices in China for 5 years has paid more attention to the function varieties of the auto diagnostic tools such as the autel maxiscan and tacho pro.

The knowledge from the website http://www.go2obd.com/ would teach us that there are two main types of automotive fault diagnostic computer and automobile link mode which are wired and wireless. The Wired type is that the people connect the diagnostic computer and automotive diagnostic seat by the diagnostic connector and link lines. The wireless type has eliminating the need for the middle of the link line. The wireless transmitter device connected to the diagnostic socket location and the diagnostic computer connect to receive the device. As we all know, the usual wireless device is the Bluetooth device.

According to the manufacturer’s configuration and measurement models, the automotive fault diagnostic computer such as the carprog and bmw icom could be divided into three types which are dedicated, comprehensive and original instrument. The dedicated automotive fault diagnostic computer only work for the set model. The original diagnostic computer can only operate for their own models from the automobile factory. The majority of the repairers in the repairing market use the integrated automotive fault diagnostic computer such as the GO2OBD and x431. And this kind of testing equipment is generally produced by the professional fault diagnosis computer enterprise.

In order to pass the Automotive Diagnosis seat to have communication with car ECU host computer, automotive fault diagnostic computer such as the and x431 diagun must follow the relevant standards and protocols such as OBD. From the information of the website of GO2OBD, we could know more about that the OBD is the most traditional and efficiency standard and system for the auto diagnostic tools such as the GO2OBD and x431 diagun. Most of the auto diagnostic tools in our market today are all based on the OBD system and standard.

An Article Covering the benefits to automotive Seat Covers

One of the great on-the-road ironies is that while you’re sitting comfortably in your car seat, the seat itself is having to stand up to a tremendous amount of abuse. Dirty clothes, wet swimsuits, spilt drinks, kids snacking in the backseat, slobbering pets, seat friction and harsh sunlight all have the potential to ruin and wear out your great looking seats. And if something terrible has befallen your interior, a complete reupholster will cost you dearly.

The days of worrying about permanently staining your car seats or of being embarrassed by ripped, tattered and unkempt upholstery are close to being over. With the right set of seat covers, you’ll be able to:

Proactively protect your upholstery from a dizzying array of hazards

Cover over existing damage rather than having to reupholster your seats

Make over your interior to suit your tastes and lifestyle

Seat Cover Proactive Protection Reference

There are certain “high-traffic” areas in your vehicle that seem predestined to receive a lot of punishing use. Your carpets are constantly being trampled by dirty shoes, your steering wheel is being throttled non-stop by oily hands and your seats are always besieged by a steady onslaught of abuses. While the only surefire way to safeguard your seats is to stop driving your vehicle, that solution just isn’t practical. Dressing your seats with a pair of form-fitting, protective seat covers is just as good, and this solution won’t force you into riding public transportation either.

Your car seats face a number of perils, including:

Moisture

Whether you’re driving home from an outing at the local pool, a kayaking trip or an endless summer’s day of surfing, the moisture in your clothing can lead to serious problems for your upholstery. Moisture is especially problematic for residents of the drizzly Pacific Northwest and other wet zones. Leather’s worst enemy is water. When it gets wet, it becomes tacky to the touch – a sign that the leather’s natural oils are being washed out. Cloth seating is also prone to damage from moisture. When water seeps into factory-installed fabrics, it can fester and grow into ugly, stinky, disgusting mold. Never fear; our seat covers come in a wide selection of materials with varying degrees of water resistance to protect your interior.

Spills and Grime

No one plans on fumbling a 40 ounce beverage right into their lap while barreling down the freeway, but it happens. As drinks keep getting larger and larger, the potential damage keeps growing and growing. Besides sticky sodas and scalding coffees, on-the-go meals are a car seat’s worst nightmare. That overstuffed burrito hanging out of your jaws is like a Sword of Damocles, looming disastrously over your upholstery and threatening a permanent stain with every succulent chomp. Not to mention soiled clothing, tracked-in mud and salty back sweat. Luckily, a snug set of seat covers will bear the brunt of any spillage and grime you can toss at it.
